Veg roommate in Philly needed in June [25 Mar 2007|06:35pm]

     as of June.

no non-vegan food in the house, no smokers/drugs.

vegan sxe would be preferred, but as long as you don't drink at home/come home trashed, we'd probably still like you.

Rent would be $240/month plus bills, usually no more than $300 total monthly costs(unless some rude houseguest turns the heat up when we tell them not to every day for a month and a half).

South Philly, 7th and Dickinson, walking/biking distance to everything fun and awesome in Philly! 4 seriously awesome vegan housemates!

interested? Message me!

[23 Jan 2007|09:50pm]

I'm currently looking for work in any vegan/vegetarian restaurants. I have years of experience working cashier/kitchen (I also have managing experience). I have my own vegan baking recipes. I am more so looking for a stable job in the restaurant business that I can use to my advantage in opening one of my own. I have excellent customer service skills, and all of my food prep/food managers certificates. I am a strong multi-tasker. I'm looking for a job around the end of march, and would like to move to a more vegan/vegetarian community. At the moment I am working in a popular, small owned health conscious restaurant/grocery store. If you know of any place that's hiring- or would be interested in a more formal resume. Please contact me through here or on my email.

I am currently in the tampa bay, florida area and will be moving soon-- hopefully to a new job that will give me a little bit more insight on my business goals.

Veto Power! [13 Nov 2006|11:57pm]
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (S3880 / HR 4239), with only one Representative speaking out against it today. But there's still a chance!
Contact President Bush about it and ask him to veto the bill!
Here's a link to help with that. Just scroll down to "Take Action."

Very Important! [13 Nov 2006|12:35am]
Hello all,
Today (Monday, Nov. 13th) at 6:30 pm the House will be voting on a very dangerous bill, one that the Senate has already passed. The House was supposed to have time to debate this bill before voting, but the powers that be have decided that isn't going to happen, and that they're just going to do an up/down vote with only a little time to look at it (they only saw it for the first time on Friday). The bill looks like it's built to fight terrorism from animal rights the front, which I'm all about. But the thing is, the bill says that an act against an "animal enterprise" that "does not result in bodily injury or death or property damage or loss" should be considered terrorism. It even specifically uses the word "non-violent" to describe these so-called terrorist acts. Furthermore, the ambiguity of the bill leaves it open to a frightening amount of interpretation. Also, there is already a bill in place that is doing the job this one claims to be meant for. This bill will set a very dangerous precedent.
If it is passed tomorrow.
To prevent this, call, fax, or at the very least email (or any delightful combination of the three!) your representative and urge them to vote against the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (HR4239, S 3880). For help with this, go here and they'll make it easy for you to do this.
If you want to read the bill for yourself, you can check it out here.

govindas/giannas [02 Aug 2006|01:40am]

Just wondering. Ive thought about this a long time.

Anyone know exactly what giannas and govindas use as their mock-meat?

Giannas, I'd guess uses big chunks of TVP, but where do they buy it? Ive never ever been able to find big chunks of it.

Govindas, I have no clue what they use, the most similar thing Ive found to what they use is morningstar farms chickn strips. Anyone know exactly what they use?

Just something that Ive always wondered. and something about govindas, they must season it somehow it has such a natural and almost ethnical taste, but I cant point out the seasoning, anyone know?(the same taste is in the quesadillas.

Thanks in advance.

Help is needed for 36 animals needing homes! [22 Jan 2006|04:08pm]

The West Jersey Animal Shelter is closing at the end of this month. The Pennsauken, NJ shelter had its license revoked due to unkept and dangerous conditions for the animals. There are currently 31 dogs and 5 cats on the premises that are in desperate need of adoption. If these animals are not adopted by the end of the month, they will be euthanized.

The West Jersey Animal Shelter is open for adoptions Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Phone (856) 486-2180.

What screwed up system saves animals from dangerous conditons only to euthanize them? Why doesn't the agency that shut them down save the animals? ......

Hi All,
I am in the process of creating a website of all the veg-safe restaurants in Philly. It allows visitors to post reviews and add their favorite restaurants. Later will allow recipes too.

If you know of a great veg restaurant please add it to my database!

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to have a vegan [Sunday] Brunch anywhere in PA. It doesn't have to just be Philly.

[14 Apr 2005|11:33am]

Hi! I'm new to the vegan thing and I go to philly pretty often. I know of a place called Kind Cafe at 724 North 3rd Street. They have raw foods which are pretty awesome. I know everything is vegetarian, but not necessarily vegan. Here is a menu

Has anyone else ever heard of it? Also, I didn't see any memories on the info page, so any good places to go in philly would be great to know.

Universoul Circus protest schedule [23 Mar 2005|02:44am]

Hi! I wanted to take this opportunity to invite you to help local activists speak up for animals that suffer behind the closed curtains of the circus. The Universoul Circus is in town for the next TWO WEEKS in Philadelphia. We want our message to be clear to all patrons and sponsors- the circus is a living nightmare for the animals! The fact is, animals do not naturally ride bicycles, stand on their heads, balance on balls, or jump through rings of fire. To force them to perform these confusing and physically uncomfortable tricks, trainers use whips, tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, bullhooks, and other painful tools of the trade. If you want to know more about why PETA is waging an ongoing campaign against all animal circuses- please visit www.Circuses.com.

Local activists will be on the public sidewalk in South Philadelphia- at Broad and Washington on the demonstration dates listed below. All materials including posters, stickers, comic books for kids, and leaflets will be provided- so just bring yourself and anyone else that would like to attend! The more people we have out there, the more we’re able to reach with our message…giving animals trapped in the Universoul Circus hope. I hope you are able to make one or several of these protests:
